Display Wall on the News

Posted at 23:44 -0500

Today was a little odd, but exciting. SDSC (my employer) is hosting a workshop this week on Grand Challenges in Data-Intensive Discovery. I've registered to attend, but I spent most of my morning moving equipment in preparation for for the upcoming Supercomputing conference.

As I was heading down to the workshop to grab lunch, I was asked to help with an interview of Tom Jordan by 10 News, our local ABC affiliate. Tom has been working with Yifeng Cui on simulating the effect of large earthquakes in Southern California. The visualization group at SDSC has been helping to render these simulation at high resolution, and I ran some of the movies on our display as a backdrop.

The full interview and story are up on the 10 News web site, now. You can see HP logo on the display panels at the beginning. Unfortunately the lighting in the space with the display wall isn't enough to overcome the awesome power of the 30" LCDs.
